Jenny is a long standing member of the birthing community in the Lafayette, LA area and has been encapsulating placentas for almost 10 years, helping hundreds of families in the area. Her other passions are being a doula (12 years) and a childbirth educator (10 years). Jenny is now getting certified in Lamaze childbirth education, a passion she has wanted to pursue since she first trained with ICEA. She also initiated and manages Gentle Woman Birth Services, an organization she hopes to grow into a 501c3 one day to serve women in childbirth who cannot afford the many services surrounding the birth of a child.

I practice in the Lafayette, LA area but I also serve the surrounding town and cities close by! I’ve probably done well over 3-400 placentas in the ten years I have been practicing. I love APPA because of the knowledge that is available to us at all times! No longer do we have to ask peer groups for shaky info, we can go to the experts and a board who can give us definitive, evidence based, and safe information we can give our clients to help them make a decision that is best for them.

APPA Certification lends credibility to almost everything I do. It has even helped in my role as a doula during the COVID pandemic!
In what way has being an APPAC/being part of APPA benefited you as a placenta prep provider?
It has benefited me because I believe APPA is the gold standard of placenta providers.
Do you have any advice for those interested in becoming a placenta prep provider?
The detailed work is worth it. You can DO IT! My advice is to find a midwife who will save some placentas for you to put in a freezer for when you are ready to do your protocols in your coursework. Good luck!
Why did you choose APPA as your certifying organization?
I believe its the gold standard. That, and Jules and her team are super supportive, timely, and attentive. The course is very intuitive and easy to take online. The format is awesome. Best online course I think I’ve ever taken, seriously. And renewal is both very thorough and speedy!
What did you like the most about APPA?
The amazing amounts of information they have an the attentiveness of the team.
How has this training changed your practice or added to your knowledge?
The protocols are detailed for safety, the continuing education is on par! As things change in the world, APPA moves along with it, quickly. A good example of this is the pandemic/COVID module we had to take to make sure we were keeping up with safe protocols during this hard time.

I am PASSIONATE about childbirth education! I’ve been teaching for almost ten years and will be a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator in November of 2020. I am a Doula of 12 years and a Certified VBAC Doula through the VBAC Link. I am also Lactation Counselor.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I love what I do! I love helping families and seeing smiling faces the most!
