Meet Washington state APPAC since 2016, Melissa Davies! She told us about herself, her services to childbearing women and her story with APPA…
My name is Melissa, most people call me Mel. I am a wife and a mother of 4 beautiful boys who were all born in Australia. My husband is from the USA and our family moved from Australia to Wenatchee, Washington in late 2015.
I began my journey to become a Doula in 2009 while working with a Christian volunteer organization called YWAM. During that time I was a young mother and I was exposed to the needs of women developing nations and the devastatingly high maternal mortality rates. At the same time I had a few good friends who employed the services of a “Doula” and they began talking about birth in a whole new way – positive, joyful and empowering. I researched and found out that Doula’s impact birth outcomes in so many positive ways. I knew in my heart that I needed to become a Doula.
I discovered placenta encapsulation with my 4th child and was very surprised to find it made a significant difference in my postpartum recovery and mood – just ask my husband!
I am certified Labour Doula with Childbirth International, CLD (CBI), I am a certified professional Placenta Arts Specialist with APPA and I have had the privilege of supporting women in Australia, Tanzania, and the USA.
